Egmont
The Egmont Ecological District is shaped by the volcanic peak of Mt Taranaki and its surrounding ring plains. Distinct vegetation bands rise from coastal scrub through lush lowland forest to alpine tussock and herbfields. Though much of the lowland is farmed, the mountain’s dramatic presence and forests define the region’s unique character.
