lace fern
Paesia scaberula | lace fern, ring fern, scented fern, pig fern
A hardy, vigorous fern that often self-establishes in gardens and disturbed sites, and is sometimes considered weedy due to its ability to spread quickly. It grows from a creeping rhizome, forming a tangly mass of triangular, finely textured fronds with a soft, lacy appearance. The foliage ranges from yellow-green to deeper green.
It thrives in sunny, open situations but will also tolerate light shade and a wide range of soil types, including dry conditions once established. Cutting it back in winter encourages fresh, tidy growth in spring.
