  • Lobelia angulata | pānakenake

A low-growing groundcover that forms dense, creeping mats of fresh green foliage. Naturally found in damp forests, wetlands, stream margins. Its spreading habit makes it ideal for softening garden edges, underplanting shrubs, spilling over walls, or stabilising soil in damp, shaded areas. From spring through much of the year, it produces masses of tiny white star-like flowers with delicate flaring petals, followed by small reddish-purple berries in autumn that attract birds. In colder climates it may die back over winter before reshooting in spring. Valued for both its ornamental delicacy and ecological role, this species provides habitat for insects and contributes to ground-level diversity in native plantings and restoration projects.
