peretao
Asplenium polyodon | peretao, petako, sickle spleenwort
A graceful fern valued with divided, arching fronds that add softness and texture to shaded spaces. Naturally found growing in clumps on the trunks of large forest trees and on the forest floor below, it has dark green, glossy fronds that are slightly paler underneath, with a subtly serrated edge. Peretao thrives in shady, damp conditions with moist, well-drained soil rich in organic matter. It suits woodland gardens, sheltered native plantings, and underplanting beneath trees, and can also be grown successfully in hanging baskets. Hardy once established, it tolerates light frosts and some coastal exposure, and requires minimal maintenance to maintain its lush, natural form.
