Tainui
The Tainui eco-region combines coastal and inland landscapes across three districts. Raglan features hills, valleys, and a drowned river estuary, with remnant forests where northern and southern plant species overlap. Kāwhia is defined by the volcanic peaks of Pirongia and Karioi, surrounded by extensive podocarp–hardwood forests and two drowned river harbours. Herangi is a steep, forested range shaped by its western coastal climate, with specialised vegetation on cliffs and high-altitude sites.
