Elaeocarpus dentatus var. dentatus | hīnau

 

A stately tree with dark green foliage provides a lush backdrop for the clusters of small, white flowers that appear in spring.  These flowers later develop into fleshy, olive-shaped fruits, adding further interest. Hīnau is an excellent choice for large gardens, especially coastal ones, and it's also valuable for revegetation projects.  For optimal growth, plant it in a well-drained site with full sun or partial shade.
