Adiantum fulvum | maidenhair
A charming small fern with graceful fronds of fresh green leaflets carried on shiny black stems. New growth often emerges in shades of pink or bronze, adding subtle colour and seasonal interest. This semi-evergreen species spreads slowly by creeping rhizomes and has distinctive, stiff brown hairs on the fronds. It prefers a sheltered, shady, and moist position with rich, humus-based soil. Keep soil consistently moist but not waterlogged, and protect colder areas. Ideal for bathrooms, patio containers, and hanging baskets where humidity is high and air movement is gentle. Feed with a slow-release or liquid fertiliser during the growing season to encourage lush growth.
