A medium-sized evergreen tree with vibrant green foliage that deepens in color as it matures. In spring, it produces masses of tiny flowers, followed by purple-black berries. Māhoe has attractive whitish bark and is common in open bush and bush margins, it's useful for coastal gardens, mixed plantings, as a backdrop, hedges, revegetation, or as a specimen or shade tree in the garden.
