teasel sedge

foliage palette: dark green
  • Carex dipsacea | teasel sedge

A hardy sedge with fine, arching foliage that shifts from olive-green to copper-bronze as the seasons change. Forming dense clumps to  it brings soft movement and subtle colour to the landscape, remaining effective year-round. Flowering stems sit below the leaves, maintaining a tidy form. Preferring damp to wet soils, it thrives along stream edges, pond margins, wetlands, and in rain gardens, where it tolerates periodic inundation. It grows well in full sun to partial shade and is resilient to both wind and frost. Once established, it requires little care beyond adequate summer moisture. This adaptable sedge works especially well in mass plantings or large landscape projects, but is equally useful as edging or as underplanting beneath shrubs and trees, where it weaves structure and softness through native, contemporary, or naturalistic designs.
