Although taxonomic name changes can feel inconvenient, they often have practical value. Dianella was once treated as a single species, but it has now been recognised as three distinct species. The newer distinctions reflect real, visible differences, particularly much larger plant size and a stronger presence in the landscape. While the original species remains a reliable and variable garden plant, recognising three species has made these forms more visible, and nurseries are now beginning to stock them, giving gardeners better choice and site fit.
