scrambling fuchsia
Fuchsia perscandens | scrambling fuchsia
A shrub with a sprawling, often prostrate habit, though it will readily scramble or climb through surrounding vegetation. Its slender stems carry sparse, pale green leaves, giving it a light, informal appearance well suited to woodland and native plantings. From spring through to autumn it produces pendulous green flowers with distinctive purple stamens, followed by red-purple berries that are an important food source for birds. It prefers cool, moist, well-drained soils and sheltered positions, making it a valuable and ecologically rich addition to shaded garden settings.
