raupeka
Earina autumnalis | raupeka, Easter orchid
This attractive, slow-growing orchid is a common sight in New Zealand's lowland to montane forests, growing on trees, rocks, cliff faces, banks and fallen, moss covered logs. Its lance-shaped, dark green leaves emerge from sturdy stems that can be erect when short, or gracefully drooping when longer. In autumn, it produces abundant panicles of small, intensely fragrant white flowers with bright yellow centers, renowned as among the most heavily scented native blooms. It is particularly suited for cultivation in a shade-house or securely attached to a tree, thriving with filtered sunlight.
