Northern rātā, is a robust New Zealand native prized for its striking red summer blooms and decorative foliage. While it can establish itself on the ground, it frequently begins as an epiphyte in the wild, eventually developing a massive root system that can encircle its host. This tree, capable of living for centuries, can grow to 40 meters and tolerates a range of conditions, including shade, moderate frost, and diverse soils (excluding waterlogged areas). Consequently, it's a popular choice for both ornamental gardens and ecological restoration projects.
