  • Samolus repens var. repens | mākoako, sea primrose, shore pimpernel, water pimpernel

A low-growing, evergreen perennial often used as a groundcover in coastal gardens. It has a sprawling habit, with both underground stems and spreading shoots, and features fleshy, oval or spoon-shaped leaves that range in color from dark green to brown. In summer, it produces clusters of small white to pale pink flowers. This resilient plant is hardy to dry conditions, coastal environments, and moderate frost once established. It thrives in full sun on a well-drained site and is a great choice for borders, mass plantings, or containers.
