Gunnera prorepens | creeping gunnera
This herbaceous perennial, is an excellent groundcover forming a spreading mound of purple-green leaves that hug the ground. In spring, small, bright red flower spikes emerge, ripening into prominent fruit spikes that adorn the plant for weeks. A versatile plant it typically grows to 20 cm tall and 60 cm wide, thriving in full sun to partial shade on sites that don't dry out. It's tolerant of moderate frost and heavy soils, making it ideal for planting beside water features, as a groundcover, in borders, hanging baskets, or at the base of larger shrubs.
