giant maidenhair
Adiantum formosum | giant maidenhair, plumed maidenhair
A rare New Zealand fern, this striking species grows from a creeping rhizome, producing tall fronds with deep green leaflets and glossy black stipes. It prefers moist, slightly acidic soils with good drainage, and thrives best in deep, sheltered ground. Although rarely seen in the wild, it makes a beautiful addition to shaded plantings, gradually forming clumps as it establishes.
