A striking native climber admired for its vibrant red flowers and glossy green foliage. Ideal for covering walls, fences, or as ground cover in native gardens, it thrives in coastal and temperate regions. Unlike its hardier cousin, Metrosideros perforata, it prefers a sheltered start with its base in shade and foliage in sun. When mature, this gorgeous vine will adorn any rough surface, such as walls or ponga logs, with a mass of brilliant crimson flowers.

Often propagated from cuttings; these form excellent small shrubs suitable for rockeries and containers, but will not climb. Only seedling plants will behave as climbers. While commonly available from most nurseries, be aware that many are cutting-grown and will not exhibit climbing habits.
